Autumn News Leighton Reservoir
LEIGHTON RESERVOIR AUTUMN NEWS October 2021
Firstly, a BIG THANK YOU to all the anglers who have been fishing at Leighton. It’s been a strange time what with the Covid Pandemic, unseasonal weather conditions and near drought.
It’s now October and there seems to be a bit of rain on the horizon, this will help with the low level, and hopefully will not put off the fair weather anglers. The Team have been and will continue to stock to ensure a good days fishing.
The On line ticket system is here to stay, it is running well, with the early problems ironed out. Catch returns sent on Facebook are a real help and with the offer of a free days fishing is a tempting reminder to let us know how your day went. You can also fill in the ones in the hut, catch returns are immensely useful, please make sure you complete one after fishing.
The 2021 Season ends on Sunday 28th November, this year we are putting in place a “Clear Out” period of three weeks, 29th November till 19th December, this will allow any method fishing, with a maximum of 8 fish to take. Any Browns must still be returned. The idea is to diminish stocks which will enable the Team to start the 2022 season with a fresh head of trout. These any method tickets will be available on line £25 each.
The 2022 Season will begin Saturday 5th March
For those hardy souls who wish to fish throughout the winter months, Bessy Beck is open weather permitting, always phone to book ahead, Bessy Beck is open every day except Mondays.
LEIGHTON RESERVOIR SUMMER NEWS
It has been good to see so many anglers back on the bank at Leighton. One of the most herd comments has been “just great to be able to get out again” Everyone is pleased to return to something near to normal.
Team Leighton are stocking on a regular basis to ensure good catch returns, and we are getting lots of them. Happy anglers! Along with the on line booking system, we would like to encourage anglers to post their successes on Facebook, you can private message Leighton with your catch return and each week we will repost one on the page and this one will get a free day’s sport ticket. Message needs to include: name, date, details of catch and flies used.
Back in March when we introduced the on line booking system. Some folks were not happy as this meant that you had to pre book. We have now made it so that you can book on the same day for all tickets. This hopefully allows you to watch to the weather and then decide to come for a great days fishing at Leighton.
Team Leighton has a new edition, Louise, so now we are five
Louise is the extremely helpful one on the end of the phone line, and keeps the facilities clean.
Keep safe and keep fishing
We are very much looking forward to the 29th March when travel restrictions will be lifted. Hopefully the longer days will be accompanied by warmer weather which will make Spring this year a one to remember for good reasons. Both Bessy Beck and Leighton Reservoir are open for business, anglers who have managed to come have seen a mixture of good and bad weather, the catches overall have been holding up. The Island lake at Bessy Beck and Leighton have been stocked with some beautiful Brown Trout which are taking, especially in the sunnier days. The new pellet stove in the fishing lodge at Bessy Beck is proving popular, we have revamped the tackle shop and have a good selection of barbless flies. Since open day 6th March, Leighton reservoir has produced really great catch returns, high numbers and quite a few large doubles. We would like to thank our Leighton fly anglers for their patience and adaptability to the on line booking system now in place. If you are experiencing any difficulties in booking, please contact us and we will try and get you sorted. Normality, seems like a possibility soon and we all need it! Remember when or wherever you fish, a CATCH RETURN is vital to keep your fishery running at its best. Tight Lines, and Keep Safe
