Cold east winds during the first half of April kept fish down and anglers had to use sinking or intermediate lines to tempt fish. When the wind finally turned to the west, there were midge hatches and buzzer fishing was very successful. Now at the end of April flies can be seen rising from early morning until dusk and over the next month we can expect to see Hawthorn flies giving the best sport of the year.
Alan Entwhistle from Fleetwood had a good day catching 26 using a type of Damsel nymph. Trevor Wadds from Craster caught 23 the best 10lb using buzzer and lures.
The CEFF/Airflow individual heat was held at Bessy Beck on the 18th April. A total of 77 fish were caught in very cold conditions and most fish were caught on lures. The winner was Trevor Wadds with 12 fish and Ryan Barron second also with 12 fish.
Bessy Beck will now be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with the exception of Bank Holiday Mondays. A limited number of season rods are available to let on these days.
