Angling Report - November 2004

October - November 2004

Severe winds and rain throughout October kept some fishermen away; however those who braved these conditions were very successful with Craig Gardiner catching 22 fish in one session. The fish were caught on a yellow sedge-like dry fly he tied himself.

Allan Entwhistle from Fleetwood landed a rainbow estimated at 15 lbs. This was his second double figure fish this autumn. Both were caught on a Kenny’s Killer.

15year old David Shepherd on holiday from Glasgow caught his largest ever fish, a 12lb Rainbow on a black nymph.

Now in mid November water temperatures are getting colder and fish are becoming slightly harder to catch, lures such as Black Fritz and Cats Whisker or deeply sunk buzzers will have most success.

The river fishing is now finished and anglers will be looking for an alternative. Bessy Beck provides rainbow trout fishing for most of the winter only closing between 4th of January and 1st of February 2005. Even in the coldest periods fish will take lures, buzzers and even dry flies. The island lake at Bessy Beck, which is preferred by most anglers, is restricted to 8 rods ensuring that there is enough space for everyone. Therefore booking is advisable. Please note our telephone number is 015396 23303.

The pot bellied stove in the fishing lodge will dry you out and warm you up.
