Angling Report - September 2004

August - September 2004

At Bessy Beck there has not been the normal amount of surface activity during August, however fish have been taking well to sub-surface patterns, the damsel fly nymph being the most successful fly by far. There have been many double figure catches and some large fish being caught, for example Alan Entwhistle from Fleetwood had a fish estimated at l5lbs and local angler Phillip Walker had one of l2lbs.

As days are becoming shorter and temperatures cooler, mornings are becoming the most successful time.

Bessy Beck is the ideal fishery for the experienced and inexperience angler, having three lakes needing different levels of skill, very suitable for people new to fly fishing. With this in mind Stuart Broadhurst of Eden Valley Fly Fishing, a S.T.A.N.LC. instructor will be running a casting clinic on the 19th of September at Bessy Beck.

It is now a year since Shelley and Ian Riddell took over Bessy Beck. In this time we have seen angler numbers steadily increasing with fish sizes and facilities improving. It is their intention to make Bessy Beck a leading fishery in the area.
