Angling Report - September 2005

Mid September 2005

Bessy Beck has suffered typical August conditions with warm weather and warm water, resulting in fish being difficult to catch. Most success has been in the evenings, when sedges have been best. Daddies have been seen on the water and their imitations have been very successful on breezy days. Looking back it has been very encouraging to note that Bessy Beck has been free from algae and there have been no problems with weed over the summer.

We are now in mid September, water temperatures are much lower and the fish are taking flies from the surface throughout the day. Klinkhammers are normally the best dry flies and buzzer fishing is, as always, expected to be the best overall method.

In Autumn Bessy Beck is at its best, when double figure fish and double figure catches can be expected. Anglers are advised to fish no less than 6lb leaders to avoid breakages. Booking is advisable especially at weekends.
