Warm water and warm ambient temperatures continue to make angling difficult, and the lack of rainfall since the beginning of June has affected lake levels. However Bessy Beck is still free from weed unlike other fisheries and continues to produce fish consistently.
Successful anglers this month have been those who match closely what the trout are feeding on, or those who show them something totally different.
Tom Quinn and Charlie Dunnery visiting independently from the North East had large catches using very small shipman’s buzzers which matched insects spooned from fish earlier that week.
In contrast Midlands’s angler John Hughes caught an average of 10 fish per visit, the largest 8lbs, using a bright pink fluorescent buzzer.
Other successful anglers were Tom Davidson 7lb 4oz rainbow and local angler Arthur Lawton with an 8lb 14oz rainbow on a black hopper.
Now at the end of August temperatures are cooling and rainfall is expected, we can look forward to good fishing in September and October.
