The weather over this period has been generally very warm and sunny. The high water temperatures have made the fish uncomfortable and difficult to catch.
The best fishing times have been morning up to 11.00 a.m. and in the evenings when there has been some cloud cover. At these times the best flies have been sedges and emerger patterns.
On the occasional cool days there have been some notable catches. Mike James from Lancaster fishing on the 17th June had 27 fish on dry fly and black buzzer, he returned on 22nd June to catch 17 fish.
John France from Penrith had an average of 14 fish over five visits which is quite exceptional during these most difficult conditions, his most successful pattern was a CDC buzzer.
August and September should see the water cooling and with the days shortening fish should be eager to take throughout the day. Dry Daddies and Damsel nymphs have been most successful during this period in the past.
