Angling Report - January 2009

January 2009

Bessy Beck has remained open for fishing despite temperatures as low as -11C. The Mallard and Heron are completely frozen but by using a combination of pumps and aerators we have managed to keep over half the Island lake free from ice.

As space is reduced, booking is essential to avoid disappointment.

Angling results have varied from moderate to brilliant. A group of Tebay anglers had a great day on 31st Dec catching over 60 fish, yet on other occasions the fish have been dour and anglers have had to work hard for success.

Slow sinking lines have been best with a slow retrieve. There has been no surface activity. Blood worms, with flexi legs in red and orange have been the best flies. Cats Whiskers, Humungus and Yellow Dancer have all been successful.

Mornings have been best but evenings as the sun goes down can be good if the rod rings don’t ice up too badly.

Bessy Beck will remain open throughout the Winter on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but remember to book.

We are again letting season rods in 2009 on Mondays and Tuesdays. Contact Bessy Beck for details.
