Angling Report - June 2006

Mid June 2006

The weather during the latter part of May was generally wet and windy, this changed dramaticlly with very hot and dry conditions in early June.

Hawthorn flies hatched in great numbers for most of May and anything small and black caught fish. Now in mid June there are light olives, large hatches of Alder flies and Damsel flies are being seen in large numbers.

Due to the warm weather with water temperatures approaching 20c, mid day sport is difficult, morning and evening is best with sedges and even daddies taking fish. Small buzzers, size 16 have been very successful fished deep during the warmest parts of the day.

At the end of May Tony and Dean Taylor had catches of 19 and 17 fish using small black buzzers. Arnold Patefield caught 21 fish during a 4hr session on the same day. The best catch of the month was by Andrew McKillop from Newcastle who caught 16 fish on buzzers and bloodworm, the largest being 11 and 9lbs.

Many fisheries are now having difficulties in obtaining fish for stocking following movement restrictions at some fish farms. Bessy Beck will continue to operate as normal as we rear our own fish for stocking our lakes.
