Angling Report - January 2006

Mid January 2006

Bessy Beck will not be closed in January. We shall be open weather permitting. The latter half of December was very productive for anglers with large numbers of fish being caught up to 10 1/2 lbs. Some of the best catches were made when the lakes were partly frozen and rod rings were icing up. On the 20th December Chris Doyle from Penrith had 20 fish, the largest being 10lb 8oz on a black buzzer. David Mordue and Blyth Palmer visited us on the 24th Dec and had 42 fish between them on Bloodworm and Zonkers; David's largest being 8lb 8oz and Blyth having a bigger fish of 9lb 4oz.

On the 27th December the fish must still have had the Christmas spirit; the beneficiaries were Gavin Greer and Gary Edwards who had a total of 94 on green buzzers. David Mordue returned on the 6th Jan to catch 23, the largest being 9lb 6oz, all on bloodworm. By mid January the weather became unsettled, with very wet and windy conditions, and sport slowed, however those anglers willing to vary their tactics were still having reasonable catches.

Competitions

The Trout Master winners heat will be on Saturday 25th March. Those invited to participate will be notified by Trout Fisherman magazine.

There will be three CEFF/Airflow competition heats at Bessy Beck during 2006 on the following dates:

Friday 24th March, Friday 21st April and Tuesday 23rd May.

Tackle and Farm shops

We have just finished the refurbishment of our shop area. We have a dedicated game fish tackle shop (Beckside Tackle) and a farm shop (Old Trout Farm Shop). In the tackle shop you can buy everything for the game angler. We stock a full range of fly fishing equipment for both trout and salmon, spinning tackle for rivers and still water, nets, waders, clothing and all ancillary items. In the farm shop we have a range of our own products, fresh trout, smoked trout, trout fish cakes and pies and smoked trout pate. We also stock other locally produced foods, for example venison, dexter beef, goats cheese cakes and fudge.
