Angling Report - November 2008

Mid November 2008

The fishing is very good and has been for the last 2 or 3 weeks with most fish being caught on lures, however there are still a few being caught on dry flies.

Many anglers have been catching in excess of a dozen per visit, recently Mr Hymer from Darlington caught 20 on a variety of lures.

The best fish of the month a 13 lb fish was caught by 9 year old Lewis Gardener from Penrith, he landed the fish himself with some advice from his father.

Ron Baldwin from Brough caught the best fish of his short angling career, a 9lb 8oz rainbow using a Cormorant fly he tied himself.

Penrith angler Dean Taylor fished with buzzers and a sedge pattern to catch 19 fish late one afternoon.

The fish seem to be enjoying the cooler temperatures so there is no reason to think that this high catch rate will slow down.

End of November Update

Nothing much has changed, apart from the weather. Fish are still taking well but slowing slightly as the temperature drops, the best time seems to be in the morning and again just before dusk.

Buzzers fished deep on a floating line, black with orange seem to be best. Anglers using intermediate lines, fishing bloodworm  also doing well.

Despite very low temperatures, -11c on the 1st Dec, half of each lake has remained fishable by running aerators unlike other fisheries in the area which have been completely frozen.

Bessy Beck will remain open all year, for Thursday, Friday , Saturday and Sunday fishing except for Christmas day and Boxing day.
