Heron Lake - Bait fishing and spinning

Family fun fishing

The Heron lake appeals to families and beginners or those who just prefer to bait fish.

Any method is allowed with the exception of fly fishing. Fly fishing is not allowed for safety reasons.

The fish are stocked Rainbow Trout between 0.75lb and 1.5lb with a few larger fish. A trout of 9lb was caught in August last year. We stock at a level which ensures anglers almost always go home with a few fish but not a fish every cast as in some fisheries, angling here still remains something of a challenge.

All fish caught must be killed and paid for at the going rate. No fish to be returned.

All tackle can be hired and bait can be purchased at a small cost.

This lake is ideal for children trying fishing for the first time but all children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Coaching 

For those who have never fished before, an introductory session can be arranged with one of our coaches. All our coaches are CRB checked and licensed for working with children.

Facilities

There are picnic tables around the lake and take away drinks and snacks can be purchased from the Tea Room.

Starter kits can be bought from the Tackle Shop, along with just about anything an angler may need

On cold days a warm room heated with a pot belied stove is available to anglers for changing and to warm themselves.

There are male and female toilets on site.
